Bark the Vote!

Nature's Variety News - October 17, 2008

BARK THE VOTE is a non-partisan campaign to take a bite out of voter apathy. Spokesdog Schmitty and her pesky sister, Pudge, are going on a BARK THE VOTE cross country tour to encourage humans to vote and help pets in need. 100% of the proceeds from BARK THE VOTE buttons and t-shirts go to DOGS WHO CARE to help shelters across the country find loving homes for pets in need.

Schmitty and Pudge will set out on the BARK THE VOTE national tour from New York City on October 20th, making their way west to Los Angeles by Election Day on November 4.  Meteorologist Ron Trotta of ABC News is joining the BTV spokesdogs to give "Climate of the Election" weather reports on local TV stations as they cross the country.

In addition to appearing on the local news and encouraging voter registration, Schmitty and Pudge will be leading "Pup Rallies" for shelters along the way – passing out New Yorkie squeaky toys and New Yorkie leashes for shelter pets in need. Watch for the BARK THE VOTE tour bus in your city!  Visit www.barkthevote.org to learn more, view tour pictures, and read Schmitty's blog.

More about Schmitty
Schmitty is a five pound Yorkshire terrier living in New York City. After 9/11, when 9 firefighter friends died in the World Trade Center, Schmitty posed for a line of greeting cards. For two years, all the proceeds went to the Uniformed Firefighters Scholarship Fund (www.schmittysays.com).

After the hurricanes of 2005, Schmitty was the inspiration for a foundation, DOGS WHO CARE, to help pets in need find loving homes after being displaced during the storms.  Now, DOGS WHO CARE is still helping pets in everyday life find the loving homes they deserve.  Schmitty has appeared on The Ellen Show, ACCESS Hollywood, Fox News, and even Japanese TV to bark about her DOGS WHO CARE Foundation to help pets in need.

This famous pooch loves Nature's Variety...  Schmitty used to suffer from itchy skin and loose stools. Her verterinarian recommended wholesome Prairie foods, and ever since she switched, Schmitty has been itch-free, happy, and healthy!  Now she can devote all her energy to helping other pets!
